New to Blue Owl Workshop is our first batch of soaps and sprays from wilderness fragrance brand, Juniper Ridge. Since 1998, Juniper Ridge has been distilling colognes and perfumes from ingredients found while hiking the backcountry. Each product uses materials found in their respective region, making each scent unique. Juniper Ridge was founded on the belief that, “nothing smells better than the forest, and that the only way to bring this beauty home is to first strap on your boots and go there.”
Upon receiving any Juniper Ridge products, you’ll notice a unique “harvest number” stamped on the packaging. The harvest number represents each individual product harvest, and is even searchable on the Juniper Ridge website for corresponding photos and notes of each individual production. Harvesting the materials for the fragrances involves crawling around in mountain meadows, and smelling the wet earth beneath fir trees. After the crew at Juniper Ridge feels like they’ve got a grasp for what the region accurately smells and feels like, they move to the formulation process. This process uses tried and true, classic perfume making techniques including distillation, tincturing, infusion and enfleurage, all of which are throwbacks to how all perfumes and fragrances were made over 100 years ago. After each harvest, Juniper Ridge goes to great lengths to adequately protect and replenish the environment. In fact, 10% of all of Juniper Ridge’s profits are annually donated to a portfolio of Western Wilderness Defense organizations.
What we love about Juniper Ridge is how light, and earthy their assorted fragrances are. The scents are never overpowering, nor do they stay on your clothing for days or weeks on end. Additionally, Juniper Ridge handles every step of the formulation process themselves, from the gathering of materials, to formulating the fragrance, to the packaging. This full transparency and control of the process lets us know exactly where each and every product is coming from.
