We've picked up two new items from Big John their highest quality RARE line. The first is a custom designed heavy weight denim jacket that spares no details. The second, an unsanforized 15.5oz selvedge denim that pours every detail into durability. Both use Big John's top-of-the-line RANSEI (藍聖) denim, which means "master of indigo" in Japanese. In the production of the RARE line Big John works with the most experienced craftsmen in Japan on each step of the production, from spinning, dying, weaving, and sewing, to pursue the highest quality clothing possible.
Big John RARE 15.5oz Selvedge Denim Jacket. 100% cotton, made in Japan. Sizes Small, Medium, Large, X-Large. $395. For more information, click here.
The new RARE jacket features extra thick pocket bags and lined handwarmer pockets. Selvedge runs up the length of the placket.
The jacket uses an indigo dyed deer leather patch, and a lined yoke.
The jacket is technically an unsanforized denim, but has been cold dipped to remove the shrinkage. The custom branded steel buttons and rivets are all backed with indigo dyed leather.
Big John RARE Slim 15.5oz Unsanforized Selvedge Denim in Indigo. 100% cotton, made in Japan. Sizes 28-34, 36. $285. For more information, click here.
Like the jacket, the RARE Slim uses an indigo dyed deer leather patch.
The fly of the jean is selvedge, and the buttons are made of steel and custom branded.
Here you can see the back side of the buttons, with the leather. The indigo thread is a polyester, which is much stronger and longer lasting that cotton. All gold thread is 100% cotton, and sewn over the polyester for the classic jean appearance.
The golden selvedge is the mark of the RARE series. This denim uses a single stitch hem, which is an increase in durability over the chain stitch. Big John has specially sewn the hems to still create a roping effect with the single stitch.
