Introducing Baldwin Denim: Coming Fall 2012

This coming fall collection we are proud to announce a new denim line to our store....Kansas City's Baldwin Denim. Baldwin launched their first collection in 2010 and have been slowly growing to expand their label to offer a variety of modern denim fits and collection items. The label is named after the designer, Matt Baldwin, who works and designs all items in the great Midwest of the USA. The label is inspired by timeless classic aesthetics while using all USA factories and construction combined with some of the best selvedge fabrics from around the world.

Some of the identifying features of Baldwin denim include the single exposed back pocket rivet, a triple stitched reinforced yoke, chain stitching throughout, hidden selvedge details, and a 4oz Missouri steerhide leather patch. Most important is the selvedge denim fabrics which are sourced from some the world’s finest mills such as Cone Mills in Greensboro, NC as well as the premier Japanese denim mills of Okayama like Kaihara, Kurabo, and Kuroki.

The most important factor about Baldwin Denim is that Matt has designed several modern fits that work with nearly any body type. The Reed is their classic slim straight leg that is tailored in the right places and will work for basically anyone. It has a medium to low rise, slim in the thigh, has a slight taper yet remains pretty straight from the knee to the leg opening. It is a classic fit that has a great silhouette.

Other fits include the Henley and the 77 which are a little more slim compared to the Reed, yet still considered straight. Basically these fits offer a tighter leg opening and an overall fit that is both modern and easy to wear.

On a personal note, I spent my childhood near Kansas City and was pleasantly surprised and excited to see a fashion label excel in the Midwest and so close to my home. Matt Baldwin shares many of my interests and inspirations and I am proud to support a label that also shares a little of my heritage. I have closely watched Baldwin grow over the past few years as the label has slowly become one of the stronger USA made denim brands that have solid fits, great fabrics, and fine details and sold for the correct points for their products. We wish Matt and the Baldwin label continued growth and success and we are proud to support both Baldwin Denim and of course the fine craftsmanship of Kansas City.
